What to expect

The course

Javier Arana — Spain's most important course architect of the 20th century — laid out the original eighteen at Club de Campo in 1957, and the routing remains one of his definitive works. The Black course (Negro) is the championship test; the Yellow (Amarillo) is the more forgiving members' rotation. Both wind through Casa de Campo parkland in the city's western flank, with the oak canopy doing more strategic work than the bunkering.

When to play

Madrid's two-peak season: April-June and September-November. The Casa de Campo location means slightly cooler temperatures than open-meseta courses, but summer is still dawn-rounds territory. Member play dominates weekends; visitor access easier mid-week.

Green fee & value

Visitor green fees are reasonable for an Arana-designed historic venue inside the city limits. The club hosts the Madrid Open and various national amateur events, so check the calendar for blackout weeks.

Access & etiquette

Handicap certificate (28/36) requested. Dress code is traditional and enforced — collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, no logos in the formal dining areas. Booking essential.

Getting there

Inside Madrid's city limits, fifteen minutes from the Royal Palace by car, twenty from central Sol. Twenty-five minutes from Barajas airport (MAD). The Casa de Campo park and lake surround the course — combine with a Teleférico ride or a walk to the Templo de Debod for sunset after your round.
