What to expect

The course

Somontes sits in the Monte del Pardo woodland north of Madrid, and the routing makes the most of one of the rarest assets in central-Spain golf — genuine mature forest cover on a course this close to the capital. Fairways thread through holm oak and umbrella pine, greens are protected by the natural canopy in late-summer heat, and the design refuses the open-fairway resort cliché entirely. The conditioning is honest mid-tier; the layout's quiet charm is that it does not feel like a Madrid metropolitan course at all despite the address.

When to play

Madrid's two-peak calendar: April through mid-June and mid-September through November are the comfort highs. July-August manageable with early starts, helped by the tree canopy in a way the open meseta courses cannot match. Winter rounds are playable on dry days. Weekday mornings are the easiest visitor windows; the metropolitan member traffic dominates weekends.

Green fee & value

Mid-tier Madrid pricing — meaningful value for a forested round inside the metropolitan ring, and notably below the Puerta de Hierro and La Moraleja tier. Twilight slots offer particularly good value in shoulder season. Combined with the broader Madrid public circuit it makes a strong week.

Access & etiquette

Handicap policy is welcoming by Madrid standards — visitors of reasonable standards play without aggressive scrutiny. Dress code is standard Spanish golf: collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, soft spikes. Booking essential at weekends and on holidays; the Monte del Pardo location is a known Madrid escape.

Getting there

Twenty minutes by car from central Madrid via the M-30 then north, twenty-five from Madrid-Barajas (MAD). The Monte del Pardo natural park surrounds the course, making the pre- or post-round walk among the most pleasant in Madrid-area golf. The royal Palace of El Pardo is five minutes away; central Madrid's cultural anchors are within thirty minutes. The Sierra de Guadarrama foothills extend further north for the all-day combination.
