The course

La Dehesa sits in Villanueva de la Cañada on Madrid's western edge, set into the dehesa woodland from which the club takes its name — the holm-oak landscape that gives central Spain its characteristic agricultural character. Manuel Piñero designed the routing in the early 1990s, and the course plays to his signature: strategic rather than penal, with greens that demand the right angle of approach more than raw distance off the tee. The mature oak canopy frames most fairways and the routing keeps the wind at manageable levels even on the more exposed back-nine holes. The clubhouse atmosphere is the relaxed-but-serious register of a club that takes its golf seriously without performing it.

When to play

Madrid's two-peak season: April through June and September through November are at the comfort peak. July-August requires dawn rounds; the meseta heat past 11:00 dominates. The dehesa's mature tree canopy provides genuine shade on the cart paths, which extends the practical playing window into the late morning more than the open-meseta courses can offer. Weekday afternoons walk on outside high season; weekend mornings book a week ahead.

Green fee & value

Mid-tier Madrid pricing — meaningful value for a Manuel Piñero design inside the metropolitan ring, particularly for visiting players who want quality architecture without the Puerta de Hierro or La Moraleja exclusivity barrier. Twilight rates in shoulder season are honest and worth chasing. Multi-round packages through the club's visitor programme exist; ask directly at booking.

Access & etiquette

Handicap certificate typically requested but enforcement is friendly for visitors paying full green fee. Standard Spanish dress code (collared shirt, no denim, soft spikes). Booking is essential at weekends; weekday mornings walk on without difficulty. The clubhouse and short-game complex are well-conditioned.

Getting there

Thirty minutes by car from Barajas airport (MAD) via the M-40 then the A-6 northwest. Central Madrid is thirty-five minutes east. Villanueva de la Cañada village is five minutes from the course access road. The location pairs well with western Madrid cultural day trips — pair the round with the El Escorial monastery or the Sierra de Guadarrama foothill villages for the off-course afternoon. The Sierra mountain villages are forty-five minutes north for a longer day.
