The course

La Faisanera sits in the pine-clad foothills outside Segovia, and the routing makes full use of the Castilian highland terrain — fairways that climb and fall through stands of mature umbrella pine, tee boxes set high enough to give you the layout map at a glance, and greens that demand a working knowledge of the local slope. The course plays at altitude, the ball travels well, and the wider corridors forgive a Madrid-weekender's first-round rust. This is not a manicured Costa del Sol facsimile; it is honest meseta golf with a Segovian backdrop, and the design rewards a thinking player over a long-bomber every time.

When to play

Segovia sits north of 1,000 metres above sea level, which means the course follows the Castilian highland calendar rather than the coastal one. May through October is the prime window — daytime temperatures mild, mornings genuinely cool. July and August are the easiest months but rounds still play comfortably from a 10:00 tee. Winter rounds are possible on dry days but frost mornings shut early starts. Autumn is the visual peak — the surrounding pine and oak turn under the meseta light.

Green fee & value

Pricing sits at the affordable end of the central-Spain market — meaningful value for a full eighteen at altitude, particularly compared to the equivalent Madrid commuter circuit. Twilight rates are honest and the course is far enough outside the metropolitan ring that the Madrid weekend-rush pricing does not apply. Multi-round packages combined with Segovia accommodation make this an excellent two-day cultural-and-golf escape from the capital.

Access & etiquette

Handicap policy is welcoming — no aggressive gate at the pro shop. Dress code is standard Spanish golf: collared shirt, no denim, soft spikes preferred. Booking advisable at weekends when the Madrid escape traffic arrives; weekday mornings usually walk on without difficulty. Buggies optional, the routing walks well if your legs are honest about the altitude climbs.

Getting there

Seventy minutes by car from Madrid-Barajas (MAD) via the A-6 then A-601, ninety from central Madrid in honest traffic. The course is fifteen minutes from Segovia's UNESCO-listed old town and Roman aqueduct, which makes the cultural pairing genuinely effortless — round in the morning, aqueduct and cochinillo for late lunch. The Sierra de Guadarrama natural park is twenty minutes south for hiking or the AVE high-speed train back to Madrid in under half an hour from Segovia-Guiomar station.
