The course

Shangri-La is the small Asturian curiosity in the regional portfolio — a compact, atmospheric layout in the green Asturian countryside that earns its quiet local following through character rather than scale. The routing rolls through pasture and wood with the kind of mid-handicap-friendly forgiveness the visiting traveller appreciates after the dramatic championship circuits further south. The conditioning is honest mid-tier given the high Atlantic rainfall; the design refuses to perform for a tourist audience. This is the local round, and Asturian golf is unembarrassed about it.

When to play

The Atlantic-north Spain calendar runs the opposite way to the Mediterranean coast — May through September is the comfort window, with the green peaking in late spring after the long wet winter. October through April is reliably wet; rounds play on dry windows but the irrigation comes from the sky most weeks. July-August offers the most reliable weather and the most regional visitor traffic, particularly in early August around the Asturian holiday peak.

Green fee & value

Modest pricing across the regional rota — Asturian golf is one of the genuine value markets in Spanish coastal-region golf. Independent green fees are honest, and the regional Asturian golf-pass concept (if combined with Las Caldas and the regional rota) trims a multi-round week meaningfully.

Access & etiquette

Welcoming handicap policy — visitor-friendly. Dress code is relaxed by Spanish golf standards: collared shirt, sensible footwear. Booking advisable in summer when the regional visitor traffic peaks; outside the August window walk-on slots are routinely available.

Getting there

Asturias airport (OVD) is forty-five minutes by car; Santander (SDR) is two hours east. Oviedo is thirty minutes inland, Gijón forty minutes north. The Asturian coast is the natural pairing; the round combines effortlessly with <a href="https://playascerca.com/en/region/asturias/" rel="noopener">Playa de San Lorenzo in Gijón or the wild Cabo Peñas coast</a> for the canonical Asturian day. The Picos de Europa national park sits an hour southeast for the all-day combination.
